DHA Resolution 2021-13 Approval of Juneteenth as DHA Holiday

RESOLUTION NO. 2021-12
APPROVAL FOR JUNETEENTH TO BE ADDED AS AN OFFICIAL DUPAGE HOUSING AUTHORITY HOLIDAY

WHEREAS, President Joe Biden signed legislation on June 17, 2021, to make Juneteenth a federal holiday as the national day to commemorate the end of slavery in the United States, and

WHEREAS, Governor Pritzker signed into law the declaration of Juneteenth as a formal state holiday in the State of Illinois on June 16, 2021, and

WHEREAS, Juneteenth National Independence Day shall be observed on June 19 of each year as a holiday throughout the State and Nation, and

WHEREAS, Juneteenth National Independence Day commemorates the abolition of slavery throughout the United States and its territories in 1865, and

WHEREAS, the DuPage Housing Authority Board of Commissioners desires to honor and pay tribute to those who endured suffering and to celebrate the freedom enjoyed by its citizens today.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Commissioners of the DuPage Housing Authority, to include the Juneteenth National Independence Day to the list of DuPage Housing Authority observed holidays.
