KENDALL HOUSING AUTHORITY ANNOUNCES ADDITIONAL $95,918 GRANT TO ASSIST WITH ADULTS WITH DISABILITIES FROM CARES ACT
Yorkville, IL - The Kendall County Housing Authority is pleased to announce an additional grant of $95,918 was awarded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to help provide affordable housing to non-elderly disabled persons living in Kendall County this additional funding was provided through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES ACT) these new vouchers are through the Mainstream Housing Choice Voucher Program.
This information was announced on Thursday (June 4, 2020) by Kendall and DuPage Housing Authority Executive Director Kenneth Coles in an email to the Kendall Housing Authority Commissioners. The grant of $95,918 equates to an additional eight (8) Mainstream vouchers under the CARES Act. The Act provides for an additional 30% of a PHAs Mainstream voucher awards in 2 categories. That brings the KHA Mainstream voucher total to 33, and the total number of vouchers of all types allocated to the Kendall Housing Authority to 193.
"Once again the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development is seeing what we at the Kendall Housing Authority have known for quite a while, that there is demand for vouchers in Kendall County. It is important that the Housing Authority pursues ways to help our community find a place for people with disabilities a safe, decent, and affordable place to live" said Kendall Housing Authority Chairman Matthew Prochaska "This allows the Kendall Housing Authority to further pull names off of our waitlist."
DuPage and Kendall Housing Authority Executive Director Kenneth Coles added, "This additional award of targeted Mainstream vouchers continues to create unprecedented synergy in expanding the much needed affordable housing options in Kendall County. "
The Mainstream Housing Choice Voucher Program was developed to assist non-elderly persons with disabilities, particularly those who are transitioning out of institutional or other separated settings; at serious risk of institutionalization; currently experiencing homelessness; previously experienced homelessness and currently a client in a permanent supportive housing or rapid rehousing project; or at risk of becoming homeless.
This program helps further the goals of the Americans with Disabilities Act by helping persons with disabilities live in the most integrated setting. The the program also encourages partnerships with health and human service agencies with a demonstrated capacity to coordinate voluntary services and supports to enable individuals to live independently in the community.
Kendall Housing Authority is a governmental agency whose Commissioners are appointed by the Kendall County Board Chairman to 5-year terms. The Commissioners are Matthew Prochaska, Robyn Ingemunsen, Tom Grant, Jeremy Swanson, and Eric Gauss. Kendall Housing Authority is ranked by HUD as a Section Eight Management Assessment Program (SEMAP) High-Performer which is the highest rating given to a public housing authority.
